In the many excitement pleasures of the season, there are few I and my buddy Mark are more excited about; the one that I am the most excited about is the arrival of the Sam Adams Winter Classics. In the last few years, there have been adjustments, but now the mixed pack is near perfection. The pack includes the ever present Sam Adams Boston Lager, which is in everything they do, but there are now five additional beers that are near perfect. The Chocolate Bock which was introduced last year and tastes like Cocoa Puffs. The Winter Lager, which is a spiced amber ale, heavy on the Christmas flavors. The Holiday Porter, which is a heavy full porter, that holds its sway based solely on a complex grain bill. The newest beer, the Coffee Stout, Black and Brew, which is the creamiest and roastiest beer I have ever tried. Finally, the first gift of the season, Old Fezziwig Ale; a big, bold, heavy, beer with complex spice and complex sweetness. I know there are rarer beers to try and, perhaps, better beers to try. However, in the long run, these are the beers that scream Christmas to me.
