Louie, FX

I have an upcoming article based on the stand up comedian Louis CK on his own. Of the many comedy podcasts I listen to, the amount of praise he receives is amazing. Not saying it is not deserved, but people like Penn Jillette on Nerdist said he is possibly the greatest standup ever. I will address this in the future, however, I wanted to address it in his humor.

Louie is the FX show based on Louis CK’s brand of family based humor. It is cut up between stand up, no unlike old Seinfeld introductions, and situations or scenes. The stories are sometimes broken up and sometimes not, sometimes comes from his standup or conversations (like addressing a heckler or playing poker) sometimes each sequence is distinct. The shows gift is that the network has seemingly given Louis CK complete free reign to make a show. The whole series has his voice and we see into the humor and the sadness of his life. All in all, the show is creative and completely unconventional. There is no format it follows, it feels no need to force humor in the sadness or poignant and it feels real in a way that most shows are afraid to. Like good comedy, it is personal and you feel like the comedian is sharing with you.

Enjoy,
