Beer Dude: Full Sail Elevation

Beer Dude: Full Sail Elevation

I am stuck. At the moment I am torn between a few conflicting emotions. As a homebrew who has the audacity of the delusions of grandeur, I feel like the small craft breweries is a world I may be a part of one day. As a beer lover, I want to find the independent beauty of each beer. As the Editor of a fledgling newsletter, I want to make more friends than enemies. However, I am drinking beer that is absolutely meh. I have found few beers that I don’t like, and this is not one, but it is close. Full Sail and I have a sordid past. In general, their beers, to me are over rated, over priced, and over bland. Full Sail Elevation is tragically in the same boat. I am brewing a double IPA and figured hey, I will drink one while I brew, but man, that was a mistake. The Hops are like one overdriven chord blasting with no complexity. The malt bill is so indifferent, that it is lost under the hops. The alcohol is heavy, but unflavorful. It will get you drunk, but it is so bitter that it is more mediciny than flavorful. I know in general that the Oregon beers are supposed to be incredible, but perhaps I am too far to get it fresh and it is the distributor’s fault, however, this is the beer I get. I would accept a challenge with a fresher beer, but for now, Full Sail is on my list.

Enjoy,
Nick.
